Our Counsellor

However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
John 16:13 (NKJV)
Do you ever want to avoid spending time with God because you think He’s going to shame you for what you’ve done wrong or failed to do right?

I used to think this. Somehow I picked up the belief that Holy Spirit’s job was to point out all my flaws, even though my parents taught me differently. The trouble is, this belief can take all the joy out of devotion time. In fact, if we think that Holy Spirit is going to nag us about every little thing we do wrong, we’ll avoid spending time with Him.

Holy Spirit’s job isn’t to condemn believers; it’s to remind us of our right standing with God.

Because of what Jesus has done, God has removed our sins from us “as the east is from the west” (Psalm 103:12). He says, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more” (Hebrews 10:17). If God forgets our sins, it doesn’t make sense that Holy Spirit wants to shame us. God and Holy Spirit don’t have two different opinions.

Constant reminders of the wrong you’ve done aren’t coming from Holy Spirit; He isn’t condemning you. It could be the devil, but more likely your own heart is making you feel guilty. Regardless, it’s not Holy Spirit.

Holy Spirit’s job is to lead you into the truth of who God is and who you are in Christ, so don’t hesitate to spend time with Him.

He wants to lift you up, because His presence is full of joy and love.

first key to warfare

JOHN RAMIREZ: "THE FIRST KEY TO SPIRITUAL WARFARE"

Oct 31, 2016
Many times I have been asked the ultimate question, “What is spiritual warfare?” In other words, how do you fight against the devil and his demons? Whether in a television interview, radio show, at a conference, or some other event, without a doubt this question always comes up.
Many good Christian brothers and sisters love the Lord, but they don’t know how to fight spiritually. Spiritual warfare isn’t influenced by how many times we attend church, or how long we have been saved (as good as those things are). Spiritual warfare has to have a foundation and a structure in order for us to fight and win the battles against the kingdom of darkness.
The number one key we need to establish in spiritual warfare is the fear of the Lord. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding” (Prov. 9:10 NIV). This is where spiritual warfare begins and ends.
Yet the fear of the Lord seems to be lacking in most of our churches today. I am sure that it blows the minds of angels and even of demons so much that they stand in amazement at our lack of fear and reverence for God. “You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!” (James 2:19 NKJV).
This is why, when it comes to spiritual warfare, the majority of the time we believers never get the victory. The deception of Satan throughout the portals of time, all the way back to the Garden of Eden, is to break the fear of the Lord in your life. This has been the most effective tool that Satan has used to tower over the Church.
In the Garden of Eden the devil managed, as he is doing today, to bring the lies that will strip you down and take the fear of God out of your life. When he told Eve, “Eat of this tree... you will not surely die,” he was saying, “You do not have to fear God.” God gave a commandment, but Adam and Eve totally disobeyed Him and believed the devil instead. Most of us have fallen into the same trap today, because we have been taught by our church that God is a big Daddy sitting in Heaven, and that He will not refuse His children if we pray a certain way or with endless demands and claims and request for all sorts of things from Him. Countless preachers have preached those messages over and over.
We have lost our way: The way of the fear of the Lord. The Word says that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, so if you don’t fear the Lord, then how can you fight and win against the attacks of the enemy over your life?
The fear of the Lord means to reverence Him, to be in awe of who He is. He is a holy God, and He cannot be compared to anyone or anything. The longer I walk with the Lord, the more I realize my total helplessness: That I am nothing and can do nothing on my own, and that anything accomplished in my life is by the hands of the Lord and Him alone. This is the fear of the Lord. As believers, we should have this reverence engraved in our spirits and hearts. We should live by this; otherwise, Satan will always have us by the throat. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of spiritual warfare.

warfare against the devil

There is a difference between spiritual warfare praying and other kinds of praying, and that difference can be seen in one particular aspect-where your prayers are directed. When the devil has invaded somebody's life, you do not pray, "Lord, if it be Your will, deliver this person from the devil." No, you look that demon in the eye and say, "In the name of Jesus, come out-now! Not tomorrow, but right now!" You refuse to give him in inch. Your prayers should not sound like, "Let my people go next year"; or, "Lord, would You please let my people go free?" Instead you charge the enemy himself, ordering him, "Let my people go, now!" You direct your words to the devil, and you tell him what he must do. You never tiptoe around, worried lest you offend him.

Certain prayers do not bother the devil at all, even when they are verbose, eloquent, and deep. They may sound effective, but they don't mean a hill of beans to him. Direct warfare prayers, however, really worry him. And worship (which doesn't necessarily mention the devil, because it gives honor and glory to God alone) really perturbs him.

The first time I encountered a demon was in Singapore some 40 years ago. As a young single man and a comparatively new Christian, I had embarked on a long solo trip through many countries. I ended up in Singapore at just the right time to witness a Hindu ceremony called Thaipusam in honor of the god Shiva and the goddess Kali.
Demons are more overt in many places in Asia and India than they are in the United States, where they invade academia and the intelligentsia and hide behind “scientific inquiry” and “reason.” When you talk to Asians and Indians about the spirit world, they know what you’re talking about because demons make their presence known there on an almost daily basis.
The day swirled with sights, sounds, and strange rituals, including the self-mutilation of devotees. One of them took three-foot steel skewers and pushed them all the way through one cheek and out the other. Another one extended his tongue, took a sharp knife and pierced it vertically, and left the knife in so he could not retract his tongue. Others took hundreds of fishhooks and put them into their backs and chests—and then they would hang objects from the hooks in order to rip and tear at the flesh. Some took spike shoes with the nails pointed upward and strapped them onto their feet. Others ailed themselves with knives or inserted huge meat hooks into the muscles of their backs so they could tow an idol through the streets. Hundreds of people, mostly men, were doing this. In spite of all the torture, I never saw a single drop of blood.
I asked people, “Why don’t you bleed?” the answer was always the same: “Our god does this to show his power.” Though I was new to my faith, that idea seemed like the antithesis of the Gospel of Jesus. It was a bloodless gospel that was not really good news to anybody. These people were so far gone in a trancelike oblivion that they didn’t even know what was happening to them. They would start at one temple and end up six or eight hours later at another one miles away without any memory of the torture.
At one point, a young Indian man had been chanting ecstatically from the sacred Hindu scriptures. Abruptly and unexpectedly, his features contorted and his eyes bulged out unnaturally while an unseen force jerked his head backward and he screamed, falling to the dirt in crippling spasms.
“What is happening to him?” I asked a bystander.
“The spirit of Kali has entered him,” the man stated, “and her entrance always affects people like this."
As unsettling as this entire experience seemed, it confirmed for me much of what I had been sensing and learning, which was later reinforced by in-depth study and one-on-one ministry experiences in the United States.

CONFRONTATIONAL MINISTRY

I began to realize that God had called me to confront the powers of darkness in an aggressive way. Even though most people try to steer clear of spiritual warfare, I became convinced that the Kingdom of God would never be able to advance unless more believers came to understand that the devil and his demons are unquestionably real and that each one of us has a personal and vital role in taking them on.
You don’t have to be in a developing country to run into demons. In fact, you probably encountered some already this week as you went about your daily routines. Without expecting a “demon behind every bush,” you can learn to see the demonic elements in the intractable-seeming conflicts and circumstances that occur in your life and the lives of your family and others. And you can learn to deal effectively with them.
Won’t all this attention to demons create an unbalanced emphasis? Not if you take it as only one component of your spiritual experience. Set into the context of wholehearted faith (and I mean that both in terms of zeal and a wholeness of spirit and soul), the ongoing and malicious opposition of satan and his evil minions becomes just one more thing to discern and deal with.
Each of us needs to take hold of our whole calling as sons and daughters of God. Jesus calls us His own, and He has given us His authority, commanding us to do the works that He Himself did and still does (see John 14:10-12; Luke 4:18). What does that mean for us? Well, what did Jesus do?
Jesus came to Earth as a man in order to defeat the devil (who was holding the world in captivity) and to obliterate his works. e apostle John wrote, “...For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil” (1 John 3:8).
With His Spirit dwelling in our spirits, we carry on His devil-defeating work today. e same devil who was known as lucifer when he asserted him-self against God and was thrown down from Heaven (see Rev. 12:7-12) is the evil one we are fighting today. Although he was defeated definitively by Jesus’ death on the cross and His resurrection, he still “prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour” (1 Pet. 5:8 NASB).
In other words, the battle has been won already, but it has not yet been entirely enforced. Who are the enforcers? You and I are called to impose the victory of Christ on the devil and his demons.

YOU ARE IN A BATTLE

The devil is the prince of this present age, the god of the atmosphere, and the job of driving him out is too big for just a few people. Every single Christian has an assignment in this ongoing battle.
We are in a war, like it or not. Naturally, a lot of Christians do not want to be involved. They would rather think about Heaven. They don’t want to take risks or get their hands dirty. They think that if they ignore the battle that rages all around them, they won’t have to get involved and that its consequences will not touch them.
But they are involved by default. The first thing you need to know is that every child of God who has confessed Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior is involved in this battle. In fact, even if you’re not saved, you’re involved simply by virtue of having been born on this planet. We are living on a battlefield where conflict rages day and night between two opposing forces.
When I was a kid, I remember riding the train. It had a cord you could pull to signal the engineer to stop. I’m sorry to have to tell you that the world we are riding on is not like the train; you cannot pull a cord to make it stop, and you cannot get off.
This battle between God and satan affects everything—every human being and every cultural, social, political, and moral realm of every nation on the Earth. Ceaselessly, evil battles with good, right clashes with wrong, dark- ness comes against the light, and the counterfeit struggles to supplant the real. e powers of the devil are not equal to the powers of God, but they take the offensive wherever they can. It’s our job to put them on the defensive—and to drive them away, establishing the Kingdom of God in as many places as possible.

SATAN IS PERSISTENT

We are fighting against the devil, who is an intelligent strategist and an obstinate fighter. He refuses to acknowledge defeat until he has lost everything. Even then, he will fight to get it back.
Remember the Israelites and the Promised Land. Even though God told Moses and Joshua, “I have given you the land” (Num. 33:53), which was stated in the past tense as an accomplished fact, Joshua and his warriors did not relax once they got there. They couldn’t. They were too busy enforcing and possessing the promise. They were fighting. They were waging war to conquer city after city. And then they had to guard what they had conquered from being recaptured or lost.
In the same way, we must fight to possess the promises of God. We need to crumble walls in order to obtain the health and abundant provision that is on the other side. We need to lay claim to our inheritance and secure our rights. Once we win a city, we have to defend it. The enemy will never give up trying to get it back. If he fails on Monday, he will come back on Tuesday.
In all of my contending with demonic forces, I have never once heard a demon say, “You know what? You Christians are right. I’m giving up.” No, they do everything up to the last second to hang onto whatever foothold they have. They wangle and fight and bargain and do not give up until they are forced to. Apparently, even though the devil realizes that Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection made him a loser, he’s just too proud to admit it.

PRAYING AT ALL TIMES

We have our work cut out for us, but most people do not know how to wage this war. They think that prayer is intended to be a way to prepare for battle. But prayer is not merely preparation—prayer is the battle.
Paul knew this. That’s why, after describing our spiritual armor in his letter to the Ephesians, he insisted that we “pray at all times in the Spirit” (Eph. 6:18 NASB). He also knew that we find ourselves in enemy territory from the day of our birth, so that when we start praying, we are marching into territory that already belongs to the devil. Our environment—government, culture, marketplaces of commerce and entertainment—was long ago donated to demons. No wonder the enemy works so hard to take away our prayer lives. Our prayers spell his doom.
We must accept the simple fact that we have a ruthless enemy, put on our Spirit-provided armor, and start fighting. The Bible tells us that the whole world lies in the hand of the evil one (see 1 John 5:19) and that the prince of the power of the air is the spirit that now works in the sons of disobedience (see Eph. 2:2). The Bible also says:
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places (Ephesians 6:12).
The reason that some Christians have so much trouble is because they are ignorant of reality. Too many Christians go through their lives oblivious to the activities of the evil one. To them, he is an abstraction, and they seldom hear him preached about in their churches. They prefer to see the devil as a figment of human imagination, a concept left over from less sophisticated generations. Regrettably, as Hosea wrote, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge...” (Hos. 4:6).

YOU HAVE BEEN DRAFTED

You are not a volunteer soldier in this army; you cannot choose whether or not you want to participate. You were drafted into the Lord’s army on the day you said, “Lord Jesus, I receive You into my heart as my personal Lord and Savior.” By confession of your belief in His virgin birth, His blood atonement on the cross, and His resurrection from the dead, you were conscripted for life into the army of God, like it or not. Every blood-bought believer is in this army, so you have lots of company. There is no provision for conscientious objectors.
When you were drafted into the Lord’s army by your Commander-in-Chief, it’s as if you suddenly switched sides. By default, you used to be on the devil’s side, although you probably didn’t realize it, and now you’re on the Lord’s side. That means that you have automatically, implicitly declared war on the devil. You don’t really have a choice about it. Your only choice is whether to go AWOL or to pick up your weapons and fight. Do you want to run, or do you want to stand strong in the strength that your Commander supplies? Do you want to go absent without leave from your Commander-in-Chief, or do you want to stand up and fight in the name of Jesus?
You have been caught in cross re—for your soul. Your decision to fight or retreat has eternal consequences. Your salvation has been secured in any case, but you don’t want to enter Heaven as a cowardly soldier who hid behind others when the battle got fierce. You want to march victoriously to your eternal destination knowing that you have fought the good fight and kept the faith.
When you become a soldier in the United States Army, you sign up for conflict. The commanding officer never promises that you will be safe or never shot at. He doesn’t assure you that you will never have to hurt anybody or that you’ll never see any blood. Far from it. In fact, you are taught how to fight and how to use weapons. It’s the same for Christian soldiers. I am glad that I’m fighting in the Lord’s army. I’d rather be ducking enemy re coming toward me than getting shot in the back running away.
Picture a young, good-looking soldier. That serviceman has been sifted and trained and tested. A recruiter didn’t simply scoop him up o the street, give him a uniform, and send him straight to the front lines of battle. No, he’s been thoroughly trained first. Besides being given weapons and taught how to use them, he’s been trained in teamwork and loyalty and obedience. His resolve has been tested and tried. What’s his commitment like? Is he willing to fight for his country to the death if necessary? Besides being drafted into the Lord’s army, you have been equipped to do the fighting you will be required to do. Jesus’ name alone puts terror into the hearts of His enemies. Jesus declared, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth” (Matt. 28:18). And His Father in Heaven.
...has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth (Philippians 2:9-10).

WHAT IS WARFARE PRAYER?

By invoking the name of Jesus, you are praying warfare prayer, which hinders evil operations in a place or in a person’s life.
But there is a difference between spiritual warfare praying and other kinds of praying, and that difference can be seen in one particular aspect—where your prayers are directed. When the devil has invaded somebody’s life, you do not pray, “Lord, if it be Your will, deliver this person from the devil.” No, you look that demon in the eye and say, “In the name of Jesus, come out—now! Not tomorrow, but right now!” You refuse to give him in inch. Your prayers should not sound like, “Let my people go next year”; or, “Lord, would You please let my people go free?” Instead you charge the enemy himself, ordering him, “Let my people go, now!” You direct your words to the devil, and you tell him what he must do. You never tiptoe around, worried lest you offend him.
Certain prayers do not bother the devil at all, even when they are verbose, eloquent, and deep. They may sound effective, but they don’t mean a hill of beans to him. Direct warfare prayers, however, really worry him. And worship (which doesn’t necessarily mention the devil, because it gives honor and glory to God alone) really perturbs him.
You are there to exorcise demons, not to pretty them up. We already have too many spiritual cosmetologists in the Body of Christ, people who pray pretty prayers and put makeup on problems. What we need are warrior-surgeons who can take the Sword of the Spirit and cut out the problem in the name of Jesus.
Most Christian leaders hold back from getting involved in deliverance because they are too intimidated by their own demons (too bound and too frightened to admit it) and because they just do not know how to confront the devil. Nobody explained spiritual warfare to them in Bible school or seminary. Or even if it was explained, they missed the part about Jesus’ authority—which is significantly weakened if a person has unrepented-of sin in his or her life. When you get involved in deliverance and you are practicing hanky-panky on the side, the devil is going to call your bluff. You have to walk the talk, live the life, and be bold with both the authority and power of Jesus Christ, bold enough to march into the jaws of hell, look the devil in the eye, tell him he is a loser, order him to get out now, and insist that you will never take “no” for an answer.

DOING WHAT JESUS DID

I have devoted my whole ministry to praying warfare prayers. Yet I don’t want people to rely on me or any other expert to get the job done. I want everybody to know how to pray against the devil successfully.
The Gospels record time after time when Jesus delivered people from unclean spirits—and commissioned the disciples to do so too. He taught them what they would need to know in order to combat the enemy of their souls. If you never thought about it before, just open your Bible and read Matthew 16:19; 25:41; Mark 1:12-13;23-28,34,39; 3:14-15; 6:7; Luke 4:1-13, 33-35; 10:17-20; and John 8:44-49. Jesus and His followers were confronting the devil at every turn.
Understanding how the devil robs and harms people gives fresh meaning to Jesus’ story of the Good Samaritan (see Luke 10:30-37). After the man who had been robbed and beaten got bypassed by both a priest and a Levite, an ordinary Samaritan man came by and took it upon himself to help the victim. Jesus told this story, and then He said to His followers, “Go and do likewise” (Luke 10:37). That’s what He’s telling us to do, too.
You and I fight shoulder-to-shoulder in the Lord’s army. Let’s pray and persist in this cosmic war until the end of our time on Earth.

spiritual freedom

Prayer for Spiritual Freedom
By Pete Briscoe
“Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.” - 2 Peter 1:2
Modern Christianity has done a poor job of presenting grace.
I hear this often: “Grace is fine, but don’t take it too far because then you’ll fall into sin.” This could also be spun, “Jesus is awesome, but don’t trust Him too much because then you’ll fall into sin.”
Really? Jesus will lead us into sin? Or is it that He will lead us among the sinners? Look deeper in Galatians 2:17-18:
But if, in seeking to be justified in Christ, we Jews find ourselves also among the sinners, doesn’t that mean that Christ promotes sin? Absolutely not! If I rebuild what I destroyed, then I really would be a lawbreaker.
For the Jews – or church people – of Paul’s day to find themselves among the sinners meant sharing meals with them. This was law breaking. This was dancing. This was unheard of before freedom through Christ. When I am justified – or set free – in Jesus, I will start dancing in ways I always believed were… well, “too free.”
Perhaps then, if I am wondering whether or not I’m marching or dancing, I should take a look around me. Who are my fellow dancers? Do I find myself among the sinners? Are there freedoms around me causing me to lean deeper into the Spirit of God?
Or does everyone else on the dance floor dance just like I do?
One fear of freedom is that it will land us in a pit of sin. But Christ who is sinless and perfect has filled me with His Spirit. I live life through the Spirit. I dance in the Spirit. My freedom is surrendered to the Spirit. Thus, if I’m walking in the Spirit, I’m not walking in sin.
I can be sharing the dance floor with others whose freedom in Christ challenges my own.
Heavenly Father, we are saved by no works of our own, but by your sacrifice alone. Let us take joy in that, and glorify your name. Father, do not allow us to doubt your grace. You have taken every sin upon your shoulders, and washed away every blemish from our hearts. Amen.

its your decision

its Your Decision

And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw [Jesus],he fell at his feet, And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live. And Jesus went with him.

Mark 5:22-24

I wonder when God is going to do something about this problem! Have you ever asked that question? If so, you may be surprised to find out that the answer depends 100 percent on you.

There's an incident in Mark 5 that will show you what I mean. Jesus had just gotten out of a boat and people were pressing all around Him, "thronging Him," it says. They had Him shoved up against the shoreline when suddenly there came a man moving through that crowd to get to Jesus.

Throwing himself at Jesus' feet, Mark records, he prays and beseeches Him greatly, saying, "My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her... and she shall live."

Think about this situation for a moment. Here's a man that's politically on the level of the mayor of the city. But he's so doggedly determined to get to Jesus that he fights his way through the crowd and clears out enough room to fall at Jesus' feet. He's made a decision--and when he gets to Jesus, he says exactly what it is: Lay your hands on her and she shall live.

Let me ask you something: Who do you think is directing the ministry of Jesus here? This one man! A man who's made a decision. When he speaks that decision out, Jesus doesn't say anything. He just stops what He's doing, turns around and follows him.

In a crowd of literally thousands, the faith decision of one man is directing the actions of Jesus.

What does that mean to you? It means that if you're sitting around waiting for Jesus to decide to heal you... for Jesus to decide to help you...for Jesus to decide to prosper you and give you victory...you're in for a long wait. Because that's not Jesus' decision.
it is yours 🙌🙌🙌 halleluyah

see v28 a woman with a problem of blood discharge for years. she decided to to touch Jesus for healing and she received what she wanted. she was healed.
Mark 5:28-29 (AMP)
28 For she kept saying, If I only touch His garments, I shall be restored to health.
29 And immediately her flow of blood was dried up at the source, and  she felt in her body that she was healed of her  ailment.

Jesus our high priest

Jesus’ Priesthood Never Curses

Hebrews 5:9–10
9And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him, 10called by God as High Priest “according to the order of Melchizedek,”

When Jesus died and rose again, He became our High Priest. But notice that Jesus’ priesthood is “according to the order of Melchizedek”. Why the Melchizedek priesthood?

The Melchizedek priesthood gives to man (whereas the Aaronic priesthood takes from man). We see this when Melchizedek gave bread and wine to refresh a tired Abraham after his battle with the enemy kings. (Genesis 14:14–20) So if Jesus’ priesthood is according to the Melchizedek order, then it is one in which we can come boldly into His presence to receive from Him! (Hebrews 4:16)

Moreover, the first word from Melchizedek’s mouth was “Blessed” — “Blessed be Abram…” (Genesis 14:19) The Melchizedek order is just that — blessings. In other words, Jesus’ priesthood is one that blesses and never curses us!

So are we conscious of Jesus our High Priest giving to us every day? Are we alert to all His blessings coming from heaven toward us on earth?

Now, it is easy for us to believe God for His blessings in creation. For example, we have no difficulty believing that the sun will rise every morning. But while we have no problems believing the work of creation, we have problems believing the work of redemption. We sometimes find it hard to believe God for healing, provision, favor, protection or restoration — blessings that Jesus died to give us. We don’t really believe that every day, the Lord will take care of us, keep our bodies healthy and provide for all our needs.

Yet, creation is fallen. It can be a blessing as well as a curse. Sometimes, a storm arises, and powerful winds and rains destroy thousands of homes and lives. Sometimes, dark clouds hide the sun and make the whole day gloomy.

My friend, we can’t put our trust in creation, but we can certainly put our trust in redemption. And unlike creation, the blessings of redemption are all good! The work of Jesus is not subject to the weather or anything else. The work of redemption is as sure as Jesus Himself. He died and rose again to be our High Priest who daily showers us with blessings!

Thought For The Day
Jesus’ priesthood, which is according to the order of Melchizedek, is one that blesses and never curses us!

the answer is Jesus

The Answer Is Jesus

by Inspiration Ministries
“Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin? Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 7:24-25 NLT
Paul was honest about his struggles. Looking at his own life, he concluded that he was “rotten through and through.” This great apostle confessed, “No matter which way I turn, I can’t make myself do right…When I try not to do wrong, I do it anyway.”
In spite of his desire to do the right thing, sin still had control: “I am not really the one doing it; the sin within me is doing it.” He felt that he was a slave to sin and “there is another law at work within me that is at war with my mind.”
What was the answer? Jesus. Jesus gave him the power and ability he needed. He helped him overcome the grip that sin had on his life.
Throughout history, men and women from every nation have experienced the same struggles. They thought they could change through their own efforts, by working harder or making a decision. But, as Paul found, we cannot make these transformations on our own. All of us need Jesus!
Today you may feel trapped by sin, habits, or circumstances. In spite of your efforts, you may feel defeated. Weighed down by problems and haunted by memories, you may face troubling temptations. You may be worried about your needs, preoccupied by your job, or anxious about the future.
The Bible assures you that, for every question, “the answer is in Jesus Christ.” You need His strength and power to achieve victory. You cannot do it on your own.
Right now, tell Him about your feelings and needs. Then, surrender your life to Him, and allow Him to give you the victory you need. Jesus is your answer today.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, I realize that I cannot succeed on my own. I surrender my life to You. Give me the strength I need. I believe that You are the answer to my problems. In Your name. Amen.

victory in Christ

Enjoy the Victory
But thanks be to God, Who gives us the victory-making us conquerors--through our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 15:57, The Amplified Bible

Victors! More than conquerors! That's what the Bible says we are. I know you've heard that many times before, but today I want you to let the reality of it really sink in. I want you to spend some time meditating about what those terms actually mean.
The dictionary says that victory means "final and complete supremacy or superiority in battle or war, success in any contest or struggling involving the defeat of an opponent or the overcoming of obstacles."
To conquer means "to get the better of in competition or struggle, to master, suppress, prevail over, overwhelm, surmount, to gain superiority, to subdue, to vanquish, to crush, to defeat."
Once you get those definitions firmly in mind, you'll realize in Jesus you've gotten much more than a ticket to heaven. You've gotten the best of the world you're living in now. Through Him, you've overcome it, mastered it, suppressed it and prevailed over it.
No wonder 1 Corinthians 15:57 shouts, "Thanks be to God! Because He gives us the victory, making us conquerors through our Lord Jesus Christ!"
Why don't you shout too! Shout thanks to God today for making you an overcomer. Praise Him that you are joined up with the One Who has conquered the world, the flesh and the devil. Aku telah memilih kamu dari dunia. [Yohanes 15:19]

    “Sumpah-Nya, janji-Nya, darah-Nya,
    Menunjang aku di saat banjir yang hebat;
    Ketika setiap topangan duniawi gagal,

Renungan Pagi (diterjemahkan dari Morning and Evening: Daily Readings, Charles H. Spurgeon).

relying on God

News 1 Photo

 Relying on God

“The people of Israel, who tried so hard to get right with God by keeping the law, never succeeded. Why not? Because they were trying to get right with God by keeping the law instead of by trusting in him. They stumbled over the great rock in their path.” Romans 9:31-32 NLT

Israel seemed to misunderstand their relationship with God. They had forgotten that their forefather, Abraham, did not earn His blessings. He had been chosen by God, but still was a flawed person, who made mistakes. In reality, his relationship with God was based on faith.
Drawing on the Old Testament, Paul reminded the Romans that Abraham “believed the Lord.” And that He “counted him as righteous because of his faith” (Genesis 15:6).
But in the following years, Israel focused on “keeping the law.” They continued to act as though they needed to earn His blessing. But this “never succeeded,” and became something “they stumbled over.”
This pattern can be a stumbling block for us. We, too, can assume that we earn God’s blessings. We can forget the importance of faith, that we owe everything to Him, no matter how long we have been Christians, what other people think, or our accomplishments. Every day, in every situation we face, we need to rely on faith.
The Bible reminds us that God works through people who have faith. These are people who, just like Abraham, may be flawed, but who believe and put their faith into action. Who make faith the foundation of their lives.
Abraham demonstrated his faith when “God called him to leave home and go to another land.” He went by faith “without knowing where he was going” (Hebrews 11:8).
In your life, seek to walk by faith. Make a commitment to follow God. To believe His Word. Be ready to step out in obedience, trusting Him. Living by faith, in every situation.

binding and loosing

In Matthew’s Gospel Jesus said to his disciple Peter “I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven” (Matt 16:19).
A couple of chapters later he said very similar words to his other disciples (Mat 18:18).
What are the most common explanations and teachings about these binding and loosing verses that one hears today? Most people assume that they have something to do with spiritual warfare and binding the devil. Indeed, the surrounding context is about disciple’s authority, only the devil is not involved here.
In reality, binding and loosing are known technical legal expressions in the ancient Jewish world. “To bind” is to restrict, to confine, to limit and in legal sense “to forbid something”. On the opposite side “to loose” is to unbind, to untie, to free, to release which in a legal sense means “to permit something”.
Here is an example from the first-century Jewish historian Flavius Josephus. He writes that under queen Alexandra of Jerusalem, the Pharisees “became the administrators of all public affairs, empowered to banish and readmit whom they pleased, as well as to loose and to bind”. (Jewish War 1:110). Josephus said that the Pharisees had the authority “to loose and to bind”and no, not demons or Satan.
When Jesus used this terminology in the Gospels, he did not speak about prayer or spiritual warfare either. The context is legal and the terms should be interpreted through first-century Jewish context. Just like the Pharisees in Josephus’s quote, the disciples were given a right to legislate, a right to make rules and norms, allowing and forbidding things in their own community. And that is binding and loosing first century’s style.

believe... to be saved

What Must Someone Believe in Order to Be Saved?

What are the most basic things a person needs to believe in order to be saved?
Paul says, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved." He says, "If you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead you will be saved."
So I take texts like that and begin at the core - the death of Jesus. He died for our sins, which means I must believe I am a sinner. A person that doesn't believe he is a sinner can't be saved. If there is nothing to forgive, Jesus didn't do anything for me. If he didn't do anything for me, I'm not believing him for salvation. If I'm not believing him for salvation, then I'm not saved. So you must believe you are a sinner.
You must believe that there is a God who has created the possibility for sin. That is, sin by definition is the falling short of the expectations of your Creator. So there has to be a Creator God out there who has expectations of humans. God expects humans to trust him, love him and live for him. And we fail.
Which leads us to the third thing we must believe. Because we fail to trust, love and live for God we are under his holy judgment—his wrath. You've got to believe that.
If you are a sinner and there is a holy God, and if you are defining sin as a falling short of that God, then in order to understand what he is doing to make things right you must understand that God is angry about sin. He is a good and just judge.
So, what has he done to solve the problem of our alienation from him? He has sent his Son into the world. You've got to believe in the deity of Jesus. Psalm 49 says that no man can pay a ransom for another man. A few verses later, in verse 15, it says God will pay the ransom.

He couldn't have used John, or Peter or Paul to die for us. He had to have the God-man die for us. So the deity of Jesus is essential.
You also must acknowledge what Jesus did. He lived the perfect life. I don't think you can believe that Jesus sinned and still be saved. Because then the sacrifice made for you was not what God required, and you aren't believing in what God did for you. So Jesus is the sinless Son of God and he gives himself up to die in my place.
This substitutionary dimension of the death of Christ for my sins is necessary. There are lots of ways the Bible talks about this and I think you can be very confused about some of them while still being saved. I don't want to start listing off all the ways the Bible talks about the atonement and how confused you can be about them while still being saved. Let's just say that what is required is the core of the gospel - that the remedy is that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who never sinned got in my place and took the wrath of God for me. He died in my place.
If he had stayed dead, we would still be in our sins. So you must believe he rose from the dead. So now he has risen from the dead.
I am willing to stop there. This is the cluster of essentials for salvation. You might be able to bring to mind some things that are so theologically attached to this cluster that I would say, "OK that has to be included as well." But if someone asks, "What do I have to believe to be saved?" My answer is, you must believe this cluster of things about yourself, about God, and about the cross.
One more thing. I am assuming something because the question was, "What do I have to believe?" But I should make clear that you have to believe something about belief. Meaning, you must believe that belief is required. If you say, "I get all of what was said, but now I'm going to work so that God can make all of this count for me. I'm going to keep the law 85% so that all this redemptive work will count for me," then you've missed it. You're not saved.
For salvation you must believe that instead of working for this salvation, Jesus has already done what needs to be done. We receive it. "As many as received him, who believed in his name, he gave them the right to become the children of God." So I think sin, God, cross and faith. That is the summary, the core of truth surrounding those four things.

take your place

Take Your Place
But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ...And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.
Ephesians 2:4-6

God has raised us up to sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus! That's what the Word of God says. Very few of us have actually dared to believe this. We've uplifted Jesus. We've exalted Him--and rightly so! But at the same time, we've unwittingly belittled what He did by not allowing Him to bring us alongside Him.
That was God's purpose at Calvary: to bring us alongside Jesus. To make us what He already was.
You see, Jesus didn't need exalting. He was exalted before He ever came to this earth. He was already one with the Father. He didn't need to get authority over the devil--He'd never lost it!
He put on a physical body so that He could come to earth as a man and gain authority over sin and sickness, demons, fear, poverty and all the other curses that came when the law of death moved into the earth--and He did it. He succeeded. He mastered everything in the world of the intellect, everything in the physical world.
Before He ascended, He said, "All authority is given unto Me both in heaven and in the earth." Then He turned around and gave that authority to us by giving us His Name.
You and I are the reason Jesus came to earth and died and lived again. He didn't do it for Himself. He did it so He could bring us alongside. So we could wear His Name and wield His authority on the earth. He did it so that we could stand before God and be everything to Him that Jesus is.
When you were born again, you were made the righteousness of God in Christ! So as a born-again believer, dare to receive this message, to meditate on it and to act on it. Go ahead--dare to take your place!

be strong in the Lord

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.
Ephesians 6:10 (NKJV)

We’ve been talking about the power of positive resistance over the past few days—how we as believers are empowered to resist whatever doesn’t come from God. But what happens when we’ve been resisting something for a long time—sickness, resentment, or anything else that flies in the face of what we’ve been promised in Christ?

The answer is found in today’s verse. You are strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might, so you can keep resisting for as long as it takes.

When you begin to rely on just your own power, your own energy, and your own mind, that’s when you start wanting to give up. Get into God’s Word and begin to recognize that you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you; the Spirit of God is in and upon you.

The Bible teaches us that the presence and power of Jesus Christ are in us, as believers. When you resist something that is not from God, His power is flowing through you to help you resist it; when you submit to Him and His Word, you’re submitting to His power. You’re realizing who you are in Christ, which will cause you to resist the enemy and submit to God.

When you submit to God—submit to His Word, His promises, His way of thinking—it empowers you. You submit to His Word first, and then gain His power to resist. It may start with willpower, but remember that God’s presence and power are in you. Once you begin to resist, you can count on the fact that Jesus Christ in you destroys the works of the devil. You have more power than you’ll ever need.

do not give up

The lazy man says, “There is a lion outside! I shall be slain in the streets!”
Proverbs 22:13 (NKJV)

Over the past few days we’ve been talking about what we as believers have the power to resist and what we need to submit to in order to walk in the promises of God.

Sometimes, without realizing it, we can submit to things we should never tolerate. Like the man in today’s verse, we get complacent.

Instead of seeing a lion in the street and deciding to run or defend himself, he gave up without a fight, and many times we do the same thing.

We say things like, “The economy is bad. I’m going to lose my job.” Or, “The doctors say I have cancer. I guess I’m on my way out.” We need to develop a positive resistance in us that is committed to running, fighting, or doing whatever is necessary to have what God says we can have!

A friend was telling me about a story he read in a book where a Navy Seals Officer was addressing a crowd. “Everyone put your hands up over your head as high as you can go,” he said. When they did, he said, “Alright, now raise them a little further,” and surprisingly they were all able to raise their hands a bit more.

You can always go further. You can do so much more than you think you can. God’s Word in your heart and Holy Spirit in you is empowering you to fight. These beliefs in you that are based on the truth of God’s Word will help you to resist those things that are not from God, so keep fighting! You’re not alone!

You can exercise the authority you have in Christ!

Some would have you believe that you are just a poor, lowly sinner, barely saved by grace. But that is not how God sees you. That is not the inheritance Jesus has left you!

Jesus wants you to walk in the fullness of all He has made possible for you. He came that you could have LIFE, abundant life, and He wants you to walk in God’s promises, able to resist the attacks that come against you and your loved ones. He wants you to understand the power you have in Him so you can release that miraculous power into the lives of the people around you!
